Who ever heard of a relief road taking through traffic into a town? |
|
What We Think
Unsuitable Strategic Location
The AAP is based on, and conditional on, the provision of a relief road. Because the options outlined in the plan impact areas of such high landscape and biodiversity interest it is clear that East Grinstead does not represent a good location for strategic development.
Environmental Cost
The AAP is based on the principal of ‘minimising damage’ rather than promoting enhancement which is contrary to Government policy PPS12 – ‘AAP’s should set out the policies and proposals for action to preserve or enhance the area’
Increased Traffic Levels in the Town
The traffic figures show a clear and significant rise in the number of cars ‘rat-running’ in East Grinstead as a direct result of the relief road.
That Option 2e is not Deliverable
The costs of providing ‘cut and cover’, new junctions, bridging the railway, moving the station, noise and pollution reduction etc. are not deliverable within the required budget.
